Aldolase is an enzyme primarily found in muscle and liver tissue. An aldolase test measures the amount of this enzyme in your blood. Elevated aldolase levels can indicate damage to these organs, often due to conditions like muscular dystrophy, hepatitis, or liver cirrhosis. While once widely used, more specific tests like creatine kinase (CK) and liver function tests (LFTs) have largely replaced aldolase as a diagnostic tool.
