Most of the Estradiol hormone in the body is bound to proteins. The unbound portion and the Estradiol bound to proteins with low affinity constitutes the free concentration. Free Estradiol levels correlate better with medical conditions as compared to Total Estradiol levels. High levels are seen in cases of early puberty, tumors of ovary & testes, gynecomastia, hyperthyroidism & cirrhosis.
