FECAL CALPROTECTIN

Fecal calprotectin is a protein produced by white blood cells called neutrophils. When these cells migrate to the gut, they release calprotectin. Elevated levels of fecal calprotectin can be an indicator of inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. It is often used as a non-invasive marker for inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), such as Crohn disease and ulcerative colitis.By measuring fecal calprotectin levels, healthcare providers can monitor disease activity, assess the effectiveness of treatment, and potentially identify flare - ups before they become severe.
