Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is a minimally invasive procedure used to collect cells
from
a mass
or suspicious area for microscopic examination. An inadequate FNAC result means the sample collected was insufficient for a definitive diagnosis. This could be due to various reasons,
including poor cellularity,
excessive blood contamination,
or technical difficulties during the procedure. In such cases,
a repeat FNAC
or an alternative diagnostic procedure like a core needle biopsy
or surgical excision may be necessary for further evaluation.
