Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure
where
a thin needle is inserted into a suspicious tissue
or fluid - filled area.A small sample of cells is aspirated
and examined under a microscope. This test helps determine the nature of the lesion,
whether it is benign
or malignant. In the context of RLN (Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve),
FNAC can be used to sample lymph nodes
or other suspicious masses near the nerve to aid in diagnosis
and treatment planning,
especially in cases of recurrent head
and neck cancers.
