ULTRA SOUND - BREAST

A breast ultrasound, or sonography, is a non-invasive medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time pictures of the internal structures of the breast. It is often used as a supplemental tool to a mammogram, particularly to further evaluate a specific area of concern, determine if a lump is a solid mass or a fluid-filled cyst, or for screening in women with dense breast tissue, as dense tissue can make mammograms more difficult to read. The procedure involves a healthcare professional applying a water-based gel to the breast and moving a handheld device called a transducer across the skin, with the sound waves bouncing off the tissues and creating an image on a computer screen. This safe, radiation-free exam provides valuable information for diagnosis and can also be used to guide a needle during a biopsy.
